Government Funded Programs

Western Community College, through community partnerships and the support of the government of British Columbia, has the privilege of providing 100% government-funded education to eligible applicants starting early 2022. These programs are market-driven, demand-oriented, and student-success focused. During each program, students will receive education from Western Community College, essential skills trainings through one of our community partners, and employment support. The programs are designed to provide students with an amazing opportunity to transform their lives through education.

Future Health Professionals Skills Training for Employment – Medical Office Assistant

Western Community College is pleased to announce that it is accepting applications to its Future Health Professionals Skills Training for Employment- Medical Office Assistant Program. 

This 16-week FREE program is designed for people who want to work as a Medical Office Assistant (MOA).

The Medical Office Assistant (MOA) program will provide students with the knowledge and training to be successful in a medical office. Students will learn how to communicate accurately with medical professionals and patients. They will learn the skills to perform office duties at a medical office or clinic, such as medical billing, medical transcription, and medical office procedures. The program includes 80 hours of practicum.

This FREE program is open to Residents of BC, Canadian citizens, Permanent Residents or Convention Refugees with valid open work permits. Eligible participants must be currently unemployed or underemployed with some experience in the sector AND not enrolled in any other funded training program at the same time of the training.

WCC admissions requirements are proof of Grade 12 graduation or mature student status (19 years of age or above), AND Grade 10 English or evidence of meeting requirements for English proficiency through TOEFL, IELTS, CLB or successful completion of entrance language assessment test conducted by the college along with clear Criminal Record Check.

Seats are limited. Classes are in-person and online Mondays to Fridays from 9am to 4pm.

Training Starts June 3, 2024.
