Government Funded Programs

Western Community College, through community partnerships and the support of the government of British Columbia, has the privilege of providing 100% government-funded education to eligible applicants starting early 2022. These programs are market-driven, demand-oriented, and student-success focused. During each program, students will receive education from Western Community College, essential skills trainings through one of our community partners, and employment support. The programs are designed to provide students with an amazing opportunity to transform their lives through education.

Western Community College

DENTAL ASSISTANT PBLMT

Start Date: Oct. 24, 2022

Program Overview:

A 32-week program that prepares you to work safely and productively as chairside Dental Assistants. Graduates will become eligible to write the exam to become certified Dental Assistants. 200 hours of clinical experience + 160 hours of practicum placement. Only campus in BC with an on-site dental clinic.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • BC resident
  • PR, citizen or refugee claimant
  • Unemployed or precariously employed
  • Proof of Gr 12 Graduate
  • Proof of English Language Proficiency
  • WorkBC case manager
  • EI Eligibility; those who are:
    • Currently on EI
    • Was on EI within the past 5 years
    • Have paid $2000 EI premiums in at least 5 of the last 10 years
    • BCEA Client
Langley Community Services Society

EDUCATION ASSISTANT PBLMT –

Start Date: Nov. 24, 2022

Program Overview:

LANGLEY COMMUNITY SERVICES SOCIETY in partnership with Western Community College and PICS is pleased to offer Fast Track Education Assistant Training.

Benefits:

Obtain an Education Assistant (EA) Diploma. Receive additional certificates: Essential Skills, Privacy Training, Emergency and Mental Health First Aid, Gender Based Analysis+, Food Safe, Pandemic Awareness, and Indigenous Cultural Awareness. Work experience/practicum with school districts and private educational institutions. Participants are provided with personal laptops for online/in-person classes. Opportunity to work as: Education Assistant, Behavior Intervention Assistant, or Special Needs Assistant. Potential wage of up to $28/hr.

LEVRA FOUNDATION

COMMUNITY SUPPORT WORKER WITH COMMUNITY MENTAL HEALTH WORKER PBLMT

Start Date: Oct. 24, 2022

Program Overview:

Dual course program that includes 25 weeks of classroom training plus 6 weeks practicum and 2 weeks employment support. Successful graduates will have credentials to work as Community Support Worker and/or Community Mental Health Worker.

Benefits:

Dual credentialing program: Certificate in Community Mental Health and Community Support Worker Diploma. Receive short term certificates in: WHMIS; First Aid/CPR; Food Safe; NVCI; Mandt; Suicide Prevention and Provincial Violence Prevention Curriculum (PVPC). Practicum placement Mentorship and guidance from industry professionals and experts

FOOD SERVICE ASSISTANT PBLMT

Program Overview:

  • UNITI in collaboration with PICS & WCC is excited to announce the Food Service Assistant Certificate Program for people with diverse abilities!
  • Benefit from real-time, hands-on training in an iconic café!
  • Get trained by a red seal chef!
  • Engage in an interactive, fun and easy environment!
  • Workplace skills Training, Industry Specific Training, work experience, Employment Support and much more ……!
  • Food Service Assistant Certificate Project for Persons with Disabilities provides 23 weeks of food services training, including 16 weeks of food service occupational-specific skills training.
