Government Funded Programs

Western Community College, through community partnerships and the support of the government of British Columbia, has the privilege of providing 100% government-funded education to eligible applicants starting early 2022. These programs are market-driven, demand-oriented, and student-success focused. During each program, students will receive education from Western Community College, essential skills trainings through one of our community partners, and employment support. The programs are designed to provide students with an amazing opportunity to transform their lives through education.

Western Community College

DENTAL ASSISTANT PBLMT

Start Date: Oct. 24, 2022

Program Overview:

A 32-week program that prepares you to work safely and productively as chairside Dental Assistants. Graduates will become eligible to write the exam to become certified Dental Assistants. 200 hours of clinical experience + 160 hours of practicum placement. Only campus in BC with an on-site dental clinic.

Eligibility Requirements:

Eligible clients are unemployed individuals:

  • Who have established a claim with Employment Insurance (EI) benefits, or
  • Who have had an EI benefit period that ended within the previous 60 months, or
  • Who have earned more than $2,000 in insurable earnings and paid employment EI premium on those earnings in at least 5 of the last 10 years, or
  • Who are BCEA Persons with Disabilities Clients or BCEA Non-Persons with Disabilities Clients;
    AND
  • Who have an Action Plan (AP) that identify PMLMT as a reasonable goal to support their occupational goal.
  • High school graduate and meet College English Language Proficiency Assessment Test provided by Western Community College.

FOOD SERVICE ASSISTANT PBLMT

Start Date: Nov. 7, 2022

Program Overview:

  • UNITI in collaboration with PICS & WCC is excited to announce the Food Service Assistant Certificate Program for people with diverse abilities!
  • Benefit from real-time, hands-on training in an iconic café!
  • Get trained by a red seal chef!
  • Engage in an interactive, fun and easy environment!
  • Workplace skills Training, Industry Specific Training, work experience, Employment Support and much more ……!
  • Food Service Assistant Certificate Project for Persons with Disabilities provides 23 weeks of food services training, including 16 weeks of food service occupational-specific skills training.

Eligibility Requirements:

Eligible clients are unemployed individuals

    • Who have established a claim with Employment Insurance (EI) benefits, or
    • Who have earned more than $2,000 in insurable earnings and paid employment EI premium on those earnings in at least 5 of the last 10 years, or AND
    • Who have an Action Plan (AP) that identify Food Service Assistant training as a reasonable step to achieve their occupational goal.
    • High school graduate and meet College English Language Proficiency Assessment Test provided by Western Community College.

    Columbia Employment and Assistance Client (BCEA).
  • Unemployed or underemployed less than 20 hours per week.
