My journey in the Medical Laboratory Assistant program at Western Community College has been a transformative experience. Coming from a commerce and data analytics background, stepping into healthcare was a completely new challenge for me. But with the incredible support by WCC, I was able to transition smoothly and develop confidence in my skills.
From learning phlebotomy techniques like venipuncture and butterfly needle collection to hands-on specimen handling, the program gave me the practical experience I needed. One of my favorite moments was a fun classroom game designed to help us learn medical terminology—it made studying engaging and memorable.
The best part? I feel fully prepared to enter the healthcare field. I am confident in my ability to collect blood samples and handle lab work efficiently. I have already helped two of my friends enroll at WCC because I truly believe in the quality of education here.
My journey doesn’t stop here. I plan to work as a Medical Lab Assistant for a few years before advancing into microbiology and becoming a Medical Laboratory Technologist. WCC has set me on the right path, and I couldn’t be more excited for what’s next!”
