StudentAid BC, How it works

Western Community College > Blog > Guidance > StudentAid BC, How it works

There are numerous choices available to aid you with funding if you live in BC and want to pursue higher education & achieving your academic and professional objectives. The governments of Canada and British Columbia are the two lenders for an integrated student loan. However, service delivery is simplified because it is managed as a single loan. Students sign a joint federal-provincial loan agreement and deal with just one person to manage their loans. Let’s see at some of the StudentAid BC, How it works today:

Full-time vs. Part-time:

You must be a citizen of British Columbia to qualify for financial aid for part-time students. The federal part-time student loan program may be available if you are enrolled in a designated post-secondary institution in Canada and studying part-time. You live in British Columbia if:

  • BC is the region where you last lived for 12 months straight, without counting any time spent pursuing full-time post-secondary studies.
  • You are a protected person or an independent permanent resident residing in British Columbia at the time of application. You will spend the entire study year there but have not lived in any province for at least a year.
  • For instance, if an independent student planned to study in British Columbia and moved to Canada as a permanent resident fewer than 12 months before the commencement of classes, the student would be treated as a resident of BC to receive student financial aid.
  • Part-time students are subject to a different evaluation process than full-time students. The program for part-time student loans does not pay for living expenses.
  • Suppose you want to enroll in a designated post-secondary institution part-time while having a verified permanent disability, chronic disability, or protracted disability. In that matter, you need to follow some programs.

Your School eligibility:

You must first confirm that StudentAid BC recognizes your school as such. Your institution must be accepted for financing. If you are enrolled in two schools, a private university or a school outside of British Columbia called “split enrolment” you may be eligible for StudentAid; check the details here.

How to Make a BC. Student Loan Application?

  • Have your identity validated and a valid BC. Services Card. If you are a first-time borrower, you should configure the BC. Services Card app to access the StudentAid BC Dashboard and the student loan application.
  • Determine the study time for which you require money before selecting the post-secondary institution you wish to attend.
  • Verify that StudentAid BC funding is available for your school.
  • Determine how much money you will need for school.
  • Use the StudentAid BC Dashboard to submit an online application. Complete and submit the online StudentAid BC application after logging up with the BC. Services Card app.
  • From your dashboard, you may check the status of your application. Within six weeks, StudentAid BC will process your application and update your dashboard account with the results.

  • Enroll in the post-secondary institution in Canada that you have chosen.
  • Fill out an application for part-time study on the StudentAid BC website to apply for federal financial aid.
  • Bring your application to your school’s financial aid office. The application will be filled out by your school and sent to StudentAid BC along with the study information section.
