Program Overview

This is a full program of flight training, covering Private Pilot License (PPL) and Commercial Pilot License (CPL) Programs. Through your Private Pilot License (PPL) training you will be able to fly as Pilot in Command on aircraft up to 12,500 pounds with as many passengers as the aircraft is certified to carry. During the day (Day-VFR) while maintaining visual contact with the ground. PPL is prerequisite for CPL. The Commercial Pilot License is the gateway to a professional career in aviation. To work for a Commercial Air Service in Canada it is required that the pilot hold the Commercial Pilot License (CPL).

The Western Community College Commercial Pilot Aviation Diploma program focuses on preparing graduates to be skilled Commercial pilots by acquiring the knowledge, skills, and abilities needed. This program is intended for people who are looking to work in Commercial Air Service in Canada and get started with career in aviation as a commercial pilot.

Program Admission Requirements

Applicants for this program must provide the proof of following:

  • Age: 17 years old
  • Self-Attested Medical Certificate

To demonstrate language proficiency, a student must demonstrate:

Option 1: Secondary Education Evidence that three years of full-time secondary education (Grades 8-12) have been successfully completed in English in a country where English is one of the principal languages. This includes successful completion of a BC Adult Graduation program.

Option 2: Post-Secondary Education Evidence that two years of full-time post-secondary education have been completed in English at an accredited institution in a country where the language of instruction is one of the principal languages. Language development (ELL) courses cannot be included.
Option 3: Standardized Language Test Achievement of minimum scores on a recognized standardized language test. Test results must not be dated no more than 2 years at the time of enrollment

Validity Period of the tests ys two years.

Option 4: Have a Transport Canada approved assessment:

  • The CFI can sign off that the student is at an “expert” level of English language proficiency, or
  • A Transport-Canada approved assessor can sign off that the student’s English language proficiency is at, minimally, an “operational” level.

Prior to Solo Flying Lessons: CAT03 or higher Medical Certificate

Completion Requirements

  1. CAT 1 Aviation Medical Certification: it is mandatory to clear this medical evaluation before you book the transport Canada exam. We highly advise applicants to prioritize the Transport Canada Aviation Medical Examination, as this process tends to have the lengthiest processing time.

  2. Candidates need to pass the CPAER exam with at least 60% marks and get a “Pass” from the DFTE on Flight Test.
