If we have to define Gerontology in one phrase, we would say that it is “The Study of Aging”. Over the years, with improved longevity, the science of gerontology has evolved to show some real improvements. If you are interested in this line of work and want to build a career in it, the first thing that you should know is – what is Gerontology?

Here, we are going to take you through this. We will explain what Gerontology is and why you should study it.

What is Gerontology?

Gerontology is the scientific study of the process associated with changes in the body from middle age to later life. It is a multidisciplinary investigation that concerns physical, mental & social aspects of aging in a human.

Many students tend to confuse Geriatrics with Gerontology. Although they both revolve around the process of understanding aging, they are still very different. Where Geriatrics is the medical specialty that focuses on the care and treatment of older people, there, Gerontology is altogether a separate chapter.

If you are here, you might be planning on choosing Gerontology as your career. If yes, it would help you decide if you know – what are possible career paths in Gerontology?
