Government Funded Programs

Western Community College, through community partnerships and the support of the government of British Columbia, has the privilege of providing 100% government-funded education to eligible applicants starting early 2022. These programs are market-driven, demand-oriented, and student-success focused. During each program, students will receive education from Western Community College, essential skills trainings through one of our community partners, and employment support. The programs are designed to provide students with an amazing opportunity to transform their lives through education.

Medical Laboratory Assistant Community Workforce Response Grant (CWRG) Training. Latincouver

Dear Community and Service Provider Partners
 
We are happy to announce our approved Medical Laboratory Assistant Community Workforce Response Grant (CWRG) Training. Latincouver, a non-profit organization committed to building individuals’ capabilities through continuous learning has been putting together meaningful labour market-driven skills training programs to meet the growing BC health sector labour market demands.
 
Latincouver is in partnership with Western Community College (WCC), a privately held provider of post-secondary education in British Columbia. WCC is a Private Training Institutions Branch (PTIB) approved college that has been serving the Lower Mainland since 2012.

During each program, students will receive education from Western Community College, essential skills training , and employment support. The programs are designed to provide students with an amazing opportunity to transform their lives through education. 
 
Latincouver and Western Community College are offering the Medical Laboratory Assistant Diploma in Surrey, British Columbia.
The Skills Training start date is February 3, 2024 (IN-PERSON).

  • Medical Terminology
  • Anatomy and Physiology
  • Medical Lab Communication/Professional Practice
  • Laboratory Fundamentals
  • Infection Control and Safety
  • Phlebotomy Fundamentals
  • Specimen Collection and Handling
  • Specimen Collection and Handling
  • Cardiac Procedures
  • Career Planning and Preparation
  • Clinical Experience
Eligibility and Admission Requirements:
  • Resident of BC, Canadian Citizens, Permanent Residents or Convention Refugees and legally entitled to work in Canada
  • Currently unemployed or underemployed participants AND not enrolled in any other funded training program at the same time of the training
  • Proof of Grade 12 graduation and mature student status (19 years of age or above)
  • AND Grade 12 English or English Language Proficiency Assessment Test conducted by College
  • Keyboarding skills of 40 wpm
  • Up-to date immunization records
  • Clear Criminal Record Check
