Palliative care is provided to dying or terminally ill patients, who have an incurable disease, with the objective of improving the quality of life of the patient. This process involves the patient, the caregiver, and their family, and caregivers are responsible for relieving pain and distressing symptoms, as well as addressing physical, emotional, social, and spiritual needs of patients. Palliative care is provided by health professionals who work together with a patient’s other service providers, functioning as an extra layer of support. It is appropriate at any age and at any stage during a serious illness, and can be provided along with continuing curative treatment. This program is designed to provide knowledge to the students, to enable them to better understand the needs and emotional conditions of their clients in this difficult stage of critical illness.
