In honor of Canadian Multiculturalism Day (June 27), we recognize the many cultures, traditions, and communities that help shape a stronger, more vibrant Canada.
At Western Community College, one of our greatest strengths is the diversity of our people. Students, faculty, and staff from around the world bring unique perspectives, experiences, and traditions that make our campus a welcoming place to learn, work, and grow.
A Day of Connection and Celebration
To mark the occasion, our staff came together in a truly meaningful way — each person sharing where they call home on a large world map, pinning their origin country and celebrating the journey that brought them to WCC and to Canada. Seeing those pins spread across the globe was a powerful reminder of just how far our community reaches, and how much richness that diversity brings to everything we do.
The celebration continued with a multicultural potluck, where staff shared dishes that reflected their cultural, regional, family, and personal traditions. Each recipe told a story — of home, of memory, of identity — creating opportunities to connect, learn from one another, and celebrate what makes the WCC community so unique.
The People Who Make WCC Great
We are proud to recognize the staff members who came together to make this day so special:
Gurpal Dhaliwal · Rimpy Dhaliwal · Raj Hundal · Vandana Khetarpal · Brandie Y. · Daren Hancott · Karanvir Sekhon · Stephen A. · Maria Alejandra Cardozo
Our Commitment to Inclusion
Today and every day, we remain committed to fostering equity, inclusion, mutual respect, and a strong sense of belonging for everyone at WCC. The world map on our wall, those shared dishes, and the conversations that filled the room are more than a celebration — they are a reflection of who we are and the community we are committed to building together.
Happy Canadian Multiculturalism Day! 🍁
