  1. Not a natural part of aging

Most people have a misconception of believing that dementia is a part of natural aging. This is not right. Dementia is not just forgetting names once in a while, which we believe all of us face sometimes. It is much more serious. The memory problem is just one symptom of the problem. There are many more issues and symptoms of this condition which most people are unaware of.

Some of these symptoms are –

i) Problem in planning

ii) Unable to process things and understand them

iii) Inability to keep up with the conversation

iv) Mood and behavioral fluctuations

All these are the symptoms of dementia.

This is a medical condition and is not a part of aging at all. So, please understand that it is a medical condition and not aging. 

  1. It is a disease that occurs before of issues in the brain

The second thing that you need to know about this problem of dementia is that it is a disease like Alzheimer’s. In fact, there are different types of dementia that occur because of damaged parts of the brain. These are –

i) Vascular dementia

ii) Mixed dementia

iii) dementia with Lewy bodies

iv) Frontotemporal dementia

This is the kind of disease that starts slowly and progresses over time becoming more and more critical.

  1. Not just about losing memory

Another thing that you need to know before becoming or enrolling for our dementia care course is that it is not all about losing memory. There are many treatments for this problem depending on the type of dementia the patient is suffering from. Some of these are cognitive stimulations, sharing and reminding of memories, keeping the mind active through various activities, and more.

There are 7 different stages of Dementia which are –

Stage 1 – No Cognitive decline

Stage 2 – Very mild cognitive decline

Stage 3 – Mild cognitive decline

Stage 4 – Moderate cognitive decline

Stage 5 – Moderately sewer cognitive decline

Stage 6 – Severe cognitive decline

Stage 7 – Very severe cognitive decline
