A day of badminton, teamwork, and community connection! Last Saturday, our first WCC Badminton Tournament brought together students, staff, and community members for a day of friendly competition, teamwork, and fun.
The courts at Surrey Badminton Club were buzzing from the opening serve to the final smash. What started back in June as an ambitious idea — get the WCC community out from behind their desks and onto the court — turned into an 80-player, full-day celebration of sport and community. Singles, doubles, and mixed doubles matches ran across skill categories all day, with rallies, rivalries, and plenty of cheering from the sidelines.
It was great to see so many people connecting, staying active, and enjoying the positive impact that sports can have on both physical and mental well-being. More than a tournament, it was an opportunity to strengthen our WCC community. Seeing students, employees, and local community members come together in such a welcoming and supportive environment is what makes events like this so meaningful.
Congratulations to all the winners and a huge thank you to everyone who participated. Your enthusiasm, sportsmanship, and energy made the day a success — whether you walked away with a medal, a cash prize, or just a well-earned souvenir T-shirt and sore arms.
A Special Thank You
None of this happens without the person behind the scenes making it all run smoothly. A special thank you to Bora Choi, our ECE Practicum Supervisor, for organizing the tournament and coordinating every detail — from the match draws to the score tables — ensuring everything ran smoothly from 9 AM to 5 PM. Her dedication and hard work made this event a success.
Thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make our first WCC Badminton Tournament such a memorable event. We can’t wait to see you at the next one!
A big thank you to everyone who came out to cheer, play, and celebrate with us, including Gurpal Dhaliwal, Rimpy Dhaliwal, Vandana Khetarpal, Raj Hundal, Brandie Y., Daren Hancott, Karanvir Sekhon, Stephen A., and Harmandeep Kaur.
Stay connected with WCC’s events calendar so you never miss the next opportunity to join in the fun. Whether it’s on the badminton court or somewhere else entirely, we’d love to see you there.
