Financial literacy is an essential skill, both in business and in everyday life — and it’s a skill our students are building well before they graduate.
During a recent class led by WCC faculty member Rakesh Julka, our Hospitality Management students took part in a guest speaker session on financial risk management with Jashandeep Singh Brar, Chandsi, and Akash Arora, from Experior Financial Group.
Practical Lessons from Over a Decade of Industry Experience
Drawing on more than ten years in the financial industry, Jashandeep and Akash shared practical guidance on topics that matter well beyond the classroom, including:
- Protecting and building credit scores
- Understanding the difference between good and bad debt
- Managing assets and liabilities
- Making informed investment decisions
- Planning for long-term financial security
Rather than treating these as abstract concepts, the speakers grounded each topic in real decisions students will face — as consumers, as future hospitality professionals, and as business owners down the road.
An Engaged, Curious Classroom
The session sparked lively discussion, with students asking thoughtful questions and connecting classroom concepts to financial decisions in both their personal lives and future careers. That kind of engagement is exactly what these guest sessions are designed to spark: turning theory into something students can act on immediately.
