Post arrival plan in Canada for International Students

If you are among those students who are shifting to Canada for studies, you are in luck. This article will guide you through everything you need to do and know after arriving in Canada for studies. Without circling, we will like to point out that this list of things will help you settle down in the new country and help you get a grip on the new lifestyle waiting for you. We understand that for many students, the move is challenging. This list will help to keep you on track of what is the most essential.

Let’s get right to things that you should focus on post-arrival in Canada.

  1. Apply for SIN – SIN stands for social insurance number. This is a 9-digit number you need if you are looking to work in Canada or take advantage of all Canada’s government programs and benefits. Applying for SIN is no rocket science. You can apply for your SIN number in person or by mail. You must carry all your origins documents, including your student permit, passport, and identification proof.
  2. Set up your Bank account – The next essential thing to keep in mind when you land in Canada is to set up a bank account. At the same time, there are different types of accounts in Canada. Luckily most banks in Canada offer free unlimited transactions with no monthly fees for students. As per our belief, the best bank for students is Scotia Bank, as it provides students with the option to apply for credit cards.
  3. Start looking for accommodation – Finding accommodation is another very crucial thing to take care of. You should join the Facebook marketplaces in Canada if you are looking for an apartment.
  4. Get a new SIM Card – Another important thing to take care of if you are new to Canada is to apply for a new SIM card. Choosing the right cellphone provider is very important. It would be best if you chose the provider depending on your needs. Telus, Bell, Koodo, and Lucky mobile are some of the cellphone providers in Canada. Go to their websites to find out the latest deals and plan details.
  5. Apply for your driving license – For all the new students in Canada, it is important that you learn how to drive. This will make it easier for you to commute from one place to another. For this, the first thing you need to do is apply for a driving license. To apply for a license, you must visit the provincial service office and carry all the documents, including passport, international driver’s license from your home country and study permit. Once you reach there, follow the procedure they instruct you to, and you will be done.

These are the first 5 things that every student coming to Canada must focus on doing on a priority basis. Each one of the points we have mentioned above will not just ease you into the new world you are stepping into but, will also make the transition smooth and effortless. Everything starting from buying a new SIM card to applying for a driving license & getting to know local public transport routes is something to be taken seriously by every student.
