Western Community College is proud to celebrate Dr. Amteshwar Jaggi, PhD, RPh, Faculty Instructor and Program Coordinator, who has once again been included in the Stanford University/Elsevier World’s Top 2% Scientists list. His recognition spans five consecutive years, from 2022 to 2026, marking a sustained contribution to pharmacological research.
A pharmacologist, biomedical researcher, educator and registered pharmacist in British Columbia, Dr. Jaggi brings more than 25 years of combined experience across research, higher education, mentorship and pharmacy practice. He earned his undergraduate, master’s and doctoral degrees at Punjabi University in Patiala, India, where he subsequently taught undergraduate and postgraduate pharmacy students and supervised research scholars.
His research explores cardiovascular health, neuropathic pain, ischemic stroke and stress pharmacology. One particular focus is cardioprotection and remote ischemic preconditioning: investigating how brief interruptions to blood flow in one part of the body may trigger protective responses in the heart. Working with his research team, he has examined the molecular pathways involved in these responses, alongside potential targets for pain management and approaches to protecting the brain in experimental models of stroke.
His collaborative scholarly contributions include more than 185 peer-reviewed publications, eight academic books and several book chapters. He has also supervised two doctoral researchers and more than 40 postgraduate pharmacy students, helping develop the next generation of researchers.
Alongside his academic work, Dr. Jaggi practises as a community pharmacist in British Columbia. This experience connects his scientific background with everyday patient care, from medication counselling and reviews to chronic disease management.
At WCC, these perspectives inform his commitment to helping students connect scientific evidence with safe, informed healthcare decisions.
“I believe that connecting scientific discoveries with practical pharmacy education is essential for preparing future professionals to make informed, safe, and effective decisions in healthcare,” he shares.
Congratulations, Dr. Jaggi, on this continued international recognition and your contributions to research, pharmacy education and the WCC community.
