Canadian Multiculturalism Day – June 26, 2026

On June 26, 2026 we celebrated Canadian Multiculturalism Day with a potluck lunch that brought together more than 50 team members representing nearly 20 different cultures. Everyone shared traditional dishes, sweets, and beverages from their cultural backgrounds, creating a wonderful opportunity to experience the rich diversity within our workplace. The celebration highlighted the values of inclusion, respect, and belonging, reminding us that our diverse cultures, perspectives, and traditions make our team stronger and more united.

Strengthening Indigenous Community Partnerships

As part of Western Community College’s ongoing commitment to Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, and Truth and Reconciliation, a team of faculty members, accompanied by our Vice President Academic (VPA), visited the Fraser Region Aboriginal Friendship Centre Association (FRAFCA) on July 23, 2026 in Surrey. The visit provided an opportunity to learn about FRAFCA’s culturally grounded programs and services that support Indigenous children, youth, adults, Elders, and families through education, wellness, cultural revitalization, employment, and community engagement. Faculty members also explored FRAFCA’s youth leadership and mentorship initiatives, which promote cultural identity, resilience, and life skills among Indigenous youth. Through meaningful dialogue with FRAFCA representatives, the visit fostered opportunities for collaboration, strengthened relationships with the local Indigenous community, and reinforced WCC’s commitment to creating culturally safe, inclusive, and respectful learning environments while advancing the Calls to Action of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada.
