Academic Scholarship

The Western Community College Academic Scholarship aims to recognize and support students who demonstrate exceptional academic performance, financial need, and active participation in college activities. This scholarship can be used towards tuition fees or as a financial award presented directly to the student.

Eligibility Criteria:
  1. Enrollment Status: Applicants must be currently enrolled at Western Community College.
  2. Course Completion: Applicants must have successfully completed at least two courses in their current program.
  3. Academic Performance: A minimum GPA of 3.0 or higher (72% or higher) is required.
  4. Financial Need: Applicants must demonstrate financial need.
  5. College Involvement: Active participation in college activities, clubs, or organizations is considered.
Scholarship Application Requirements:
  1. Scholarship Application Form: Complete and submit the scholarship application form (available on website)
  2. Transcripts: Provide transcripts for all completed courses.
  3. Recommendation Letter: Obtain and submit at least one recommendation letter from an instructor who has taught the applicant at the college.
  4. Personal Statement: Submit a personal statement (500-750 words) outlining academic achievements, financial need, and involvement in college activities.
Scholarship Award:
  • The scholarship amount can be used towards the payment of any outstanding tuition fees.
  • Alternatively, the scholarship can be presented as a cheque made out to the student.
Application Process:
  1. Gather Documentation: Collect all necessary documents including transcripts, recommendation letter(s), and personal statement.
  2. Complete Scholarship Application Form: Fill out the scholarship application form, ensuring all sections are completed accurately.
  3. Submit Application: Submit the completed application form along with all required documents to the Finance Office by August 30th of each year.
  4. Review Process: Applications will be reviewed by the Scholarship Committee (comprised of a representative from finance office, registrar’s office and dean’s office) based on academic performance, financial need, and college involvement.
  5. Notification: Successful applicants will be notified via email and/or mail within four weeks of the application deadline.
  6. Award Disbursement: The scholarship amount will be applied towards the tuition fees or a cheque will be issued in the student’s name, as per the student’s preference. This declaration will be made every year at the graduation ceremony in October.
Terms and Conditions:
  • The scholarship is non-transferable and must be used within the academic year it is awarded.
  • Recipients must maintain the eligibility criteria throughout the scholarship period.
  • Misrepresentation or falsification of information will result in disqualification and potential disciplinary action.
  • Students who have been found violating a Code of Conduct and have received a written warning regarding the same may lose their eligibility towards getting this scholarship.
