Western Community College (WCC) partnered with the Government of Canada and the Province of British Columbia to provide 30+ government-funded free training programs in various streams since the year 2020.

Health Care Assistant Program (CWRG)

Overview

Due to the impact of COVID-19 and the increasing strains on the British Columbia healthcare system, Western Community College was able to offer our Health Care Assistant Diploma Program through the Community Workforce Response Grant. 

This government-funded program was able to provide 100% tuition and program cost coverage for 64 students around BC.

Overview

This government-funded program was able to provide 100% tuition and program cost coverage for 64 students around BC. This cohort was able to complete the program and receive employment skills training through our program to work in a variety of industries and environmnets.

Overview

Youth Digital Entrepreneurship Program

Overview

This government-funded program was able to provide 100% tuition and program cost coverage for 64 students around BC. Students in this program are young entrepreneurial-minded individuals who are learning the key skills and strategies to have successful businesses.

Overview

This government-funded program was able to provide 100% tuition and program cost coverage for 58 students around BC.

Overview

This government-funded program was able to provide 100% tuition and program cost coverage for students around BC. Students learned the fundamental skills to meet the current job demands in the hospitality sector.

COVID-19 Fast Track Training Program

Overview

This government-funded program was able to provide 100% tuition and living costs to participants in a rigorous and intense Health Care Assistant Fast Track program. Students completed the program in as little as 4 months and gain valuable skills and training to become fully licensed Health Care Assistants.

Certified IT Technician Program (CWRG)

Overview

This government-funded program was able to provide 100% tuition and program cost coverage for students around BC. This cohort was able to complete the program and receive employment skills training and practicum placements.

PICS E-Agriculture Training Program (PEAT)

Overview

This 20-week, free training program provided eligible Immigrants and Visible Minorities with in-demand agricultural skills to obtain and sustain good paying jobs. Participants were placed in Stream 2 – Technician (advanced English language skills and intermediate level of digital literacy). Components of the program include Canadian Workplace Culture, Essential Skills, soft skills/employability skills, short duration certification, occupational skills, job search skills, and supervised on-the-job work experience (practicum).

Upon successful completion of the training and work experience, participants received a certificate of completion by PICS and Western Community College, and were supported towards full-time employment

Immigrant Greenhouse Technician Certificate Training Project

Overview

A government-funded, a free training program designed to connect interested and eligible individuals with the agriculture /horticulture industry of BC.

Funded by the Ministry of Post-Secondary Education and Future Skills under Community Workforce Recovery Grant (CWRG), this program provides 19 weeks of training, including 12 weeks of occupational skills training provided by Western Community College (WCC), and 4 weeks of practicum with local employers.

COVID Wellness Ambassador Certification

Overview

This is a 20- weeks training program for Persons with Special Abilities to help reduce barriers in their employment. The program is fully funded and aims to help persons with disabilities (PWD) to get into sustainable employment in tertiary sector.

ECE Assistant program for Survivors of Domestic Violence (SOV)

Overview

Our 22 weeks fully funded training program is designed to empower, eliminate systemic barriers and increase the likelihood of attaining sustainable employment. Participants will complete their essential skills and employability skills training with us at PICS through online sessions and move to Western Community College to take occupational skills training to become an Early Childhood Education Assistant (ECE Assistant). Practicum period of 4 weeks is also incorporated in the training program to enhance participant’s knowledge.

Hotel Operations Services Skills Training Program

This program provides 23 weeks of hotel services training, including occupational skills training plus 4 weeks of practicum and employment support.

ELIGIBILITY

  • Unemployed, part-time employed (Less than 30hours/week) or precariously employed
  • High school graduate or Equivalent or Mature Student
  • Resident of BC, Canadian Citizen, Permanent Resident, or Protected person with authorization to work
  • Proof of English Language Proficiency or ELPAT

Gerontology Diploma Program

Fully funded 23 week program that provides educational training and employment support within the healthcare industry. Program includes practicum and employment support.

ELIGIBILITY

  • Unemployed or underemployed individuals including those from equity groups (immigrants, youth, women, PWDs, older workers)
  • At least 16 years of age
  • Resident of BC, Canadian Citizen, Permanent Resident, or Protected person with authorization to work

Early Childhood Care Education Assistant Program 1

Early Childhood Care & Education Assistant Program

Dual course program that includes 22 weeks of classroom training plus 6 weeks practicum and employment support. Successful graduates will have the credentials to work as an Early Childhood Assistant and/or Education Assistant.

ELIGIBILITY

  • Must be at least 16 years old
  • Canadian Citizens, Permanent Residents or Protected Person entitled to work in Canada
  • B.C. Resident and have a SIN number
  • Unemployed, or employed on part time, seasonal, casual, or precarious employment, or seeking training to find a new job,
  • Must not be enrolled in any other federally or provincially funded training program at the same time of the training
